On the internet, presentations from various manufacturers are circulating that create a distorted picture and reduce the advantages of an umbrella as a protective tool to absurdity. They show an open umbrella in a confrontation situation. This is highly dangerous because it severely impairs visibility and awareness.

How is an attacked person supposed to recognize what the other person will do next if they block their own view with the umbrella?

This is dangerous for obvious reasons:

• Restricted field of vision: You see less and react later.
• Less situational control: It becomes harder to assess the surroundings, distance and movements.
• Higher risk through misunderstandings: Situations can escalate unnecessarily.

This is especially risky for people who are only just discovering the umbrella as a protective aid. Through such a flawed concept, they place themselves in serious difficulty more than ever.

An attacker can move the umbrella out of line or take it away with a sideways motion. In the worst case, this creates an additional danger. Anyone who relies on spectacular presentations often underestimates the dynamics of real conflicts. Our instructor describes this as an unnecessary safety risk.

Assessment of manufacturer responsibility and competence

If the recommended use of a product is already based on unrealistic or potentially risky assumptions, this inevitably raises doubts about the overall concept and construction. It also raises the question: does the person really understand the actual requirements of the product and are they capable of meeting them?

A comparison makes this clear:
How is a car manufacturer supposed to develop a roadworthy vehicle if they only have a vague idea of how it behaves in real driving conditions? – You certainly would not get into a car made by such a producer, would you?

One thought should not be overlooked:

You buy a protective umbrella so that you are not defenseless in a very dangerous situation. Precisely then, you depend on a tool that works absolutely reliably and whose possibilities and limitations you know extremely well.
